Obituary of Alfred \ W Petmecky

Alfred "Pat" W. Petmecky, age 88, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012. He was born in Fredericksburg, TX. Pat had a lifelong love of flying, hunting, fishing, woodworking and photography. He built and flew his own experimental airplane. Pat enjoyed woodworking and gave many beautiful projects to close family and friends. He loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends. Pat served in World War II as a civilian, installing radar sites in England, even during the Battle of Britain. He then served in the United States Army in Okinawa. Pat told many times about sitting on a troop ship getting ready to invade Japan when the bomb was dropped. He sure did like Henry Truman. After World War II, Pat worked at Kelly Field in San Antonio, TX until he moved to New Mexico in 1950, to install radar sites. He also worked as an Electronic Technician for the Air force as a civil servant. Pat retired in 1976 from civil service then went to work as a government contractor until 1986 when he retired permanently. After that he filled his time with family, friend and hobbies. Pat is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Petmecky; parents, Alfred Joseph and Maria Winkleman Petmecky; three brothers, Pete Petmecky, Henry Petmecky and Bobby Petmecky and grandson, Alan Petmecky. He is survived by four children, Elaine Smith, Don Petmecky, Dan Petmecky and Marilyn Prewitt; fifteen grandkids and five great-grandkids. A Celebration of Pat's life will be held on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Riverside Funeral Home of Los Lunas, 820 Main St. NE. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 PM. Pat will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery with Military Honors at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be Graham Davis, Christopher Petmecky, James Petmecky, Dean Petmecky, Michael Petmecky, Ryan Petmecky, Joseph Prewitt and Jacob Prewitt. Arrangements entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home of Los Lunas, 565-1700.
