Obituary of Felipe A. Martinez

 Felipe A. Martinez  1943-2018    Felipe A. Martinez, 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Los Lunas, on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.  Mr. Martinez was born in Santa Fe on Oct. 15, 1943, to Isaac and Margaret Martinez. He entered the United States Army in 1961 and served both with the 1st and 2nd Infantry during the Vietnam era.  He met his wife, Sarah, in 1964 and married her the next year. They have been together for nearly 53 years.  Mr. and Mrs. Martinez settled in the Los Lunas community shortly after being discharged from the military. Together, they raised three children, Phillip, Michael and Sharon.  Felipe was an avid fisherman and enjoyed lengthy trips to the northern New Mexico rivers and lakes where he learned to fish as a young man. He also enjoyed working in his yard and woodworking. Those who knew him could always expect a laugh and a warm, kind heart.  He is survived by his loving wife, Sarah (Chavez) Martinez; his son, Phillip Martinez (and Nanette Romero); and his daughter, Sharon Martinez Lassard (and Shaun Parker); his brothers, Isaac, Milton, Leonard and Robert; his sisters, Vangie Romero, Veronica Garcia, Frances Fitzgerald, Martha Hofmann and Marcella Valdez; and 10 very adored grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Margaret; his stepmother, Sadie; his son, Michael; his sister, Cecilia Jiron; and his brothers, Joe and Vincent.  Services for Mr. Martinez will be held at the San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas on Thursday, May 3, with viewing beginning at 9 a.m., a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3 p.m. the same day.  Pallbearers will be Joshua Martinez, Dylan Lassard, Phillip Martinez Jr., Isaac Lassard, Alexander Martinez and Brian Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Ashley Martinez, Zachary Martinez, Kyle Martinez and Nathan Martinez.  Arrangements entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home of Los Lunas, 820 Main St. NE, 565-1700. Â
