Obituary of Susanne G Thomas

Susanne (Sue) Giddens Thomas was born July 1, 1936 and went to be with her Creator in heaven a year ago, on August 6, 2020, when she passed away.

Sue was the youngest of six children who grew up with their mother, Rosaline Havemeyer Giddens and father, Mitchell Alonzo Giddens, who was a Lt. Colonel in the Army. The family lived on many Army bases in the U.S. and Germany. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Sally and Diane. Her ex-husband, but always a friend, Bill Thomas, who also passed in 2021.  She is survived by her three brothers: Mitch, John, and George; her children: Kimberly, Karen, Kevin (and Theresa Welch), and Kristie (and Scott Mutz); her grandchildren: Will, Nicole, April, Melissa, Justin (and Christa), Stan (and Nicole Luna), Wyatt (and Roni Salazar), Brandon, and Alyssa; and great grandchildren: Patrick, Elijah, Isabel, and Theo; as well as many nieces and nephews. She also held a special spot her heart for her “step-daughter” Christine Chavez Jaramillo and all her family.

Sue will be remembered by many for her smiling face, black hat, and white ponytail. She loved people and hearing other people’s life stories, as well as sharing her life stories. One could always count on Sue to be present for every major and minor event! She was a giver and always showed up to the party, play, sporting event, dinner, vacation, whatever. Her presence and helpfulness are greatly missed. She was a social butterfly and loved being around family, friends, and other people!

She was an amazingly strong and persistent woman, who loved deeply and pushed those around her to do the same. She pushed her children and friends to never stop chasing their dreams, as she herself never stopped dreaming. She was artistic and creative and took on many new ventures!

If you knew Sue, you know the love she shared with her family, friends, and everyone she met. Sometimes it is hard to see that you have a superhero in your life every day. We have been blessed.

We lost more than a Mom, as she was our best friend, biggest cheerleader, travel buddy, dinner companion, card, and game playing opponent, and most of all a consistently loving and happy person. Her favorite saying was: "Have I told you lately that I Love You?"

What we have missed the most is just being able to call her any time of the day or night for companionship, advice, and love. She would answer the phone "Hi Honey Girl! or Honey Boy!" She taught us all the true meaning of unconditional love. Our family has not always seen eye to eye on things but through all our faults, the one constant thing Mom taught us is to agree to disagree, to never stop loving one another, and to always be there for each other.

We can see you with a beautiful smile on your face dancing in heaven with the angels and your soul family! One day we will all be at the party together again surrounded by unconditional love.

We love you Mom and will celebrate your life in all we do, and we will honor and try our best to emulate the unconditional love and joy you have left in our hearts.

What a legacy of love our mother and friend, SUE THOMAS, has left behind!
