Rosalie Garcia

Obituary of Rosalie Maxine Garcia

Rosalie (Maxine) Garcia of Albuquerque, NM, 80 years of age, passed away on May 8th, 2022. She was the third child of Otto and Mary (Houschel) Richter. She is survived by her children who will miss her dearly: Chuck Milligan of Lacey, WA; Rosemarie Baca of Albuquerque, NM; and Kathleen Milligan of Cedar Rapids, IA. She is also survived by four younger sisters: Norma Stoll of Albuquerque, NM; Mary Kropog of Rock Hill, SC; Sherry Warden of Rio Rancho, NM; and Georgia Kincaid of Albuquerque, NM. Maxine had six grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. Last but not least, she is survived by her dear life-long friend, Sandra Bradley, of Albuquerque, NM. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her two older sisters (Pauline Richter and Nadine Stroud), and her second husband of 24 years, Rudy Garcia.

Maxine’s family describe her as a strong, independent woman who instilled the same characteristics in her children. Her first marriage ended in divorce in the late 1960’s when it was rare and exceedingly difficult to be a single parent. Through sheer grit and determination, she earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of New Mexico in 1978 and went on to become a Social Worker for the State of New Mexico. Her career spanned 25 years and involved working closely with the families of severely disabled adults who were residents of the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School.

Hobbies she greatly enjoyed included reading, journaling, spending time with friends and family, and cooking and baking. Her intelligence, wit, compassion, and generosity will be greatly missed by all.
