Obituary of Steven Herrera

Steven Herrera passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022 after a prolonged illness. He was born on April 22, 1962 to Vicente and Miquelita Herrera. Steven was 60 years old, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM and the 8 th child out of 11 children born to his parents. Steven was proceeded in death by his parents Vicente and Miquelita (Mickey) Herrera, his sister Cotilda Herrera, his brother Vicentito Herrera, whom he also shared his birthday with, his baby sister Marie Herrera and more recently his brother David, who passed away in 2020. Steven leaves behind his wife, Elaine. He and Elaine met when Steven was 25 years old and they were together for 35 years. Elaine was with him every day as Steven went through life’s challenges; Elaine was his caring, loving wife who was with him up until the day he took his last breath. Steven leaves behind his brother Cayetano Herrera and wife Pauline, brother Joe Herrera and wife Ruby, sister Pauline Lucero, sister Sally Lucero and Benito, brother Herman Herrera and sister Dorothy Herrera along with many nieces and nephews. Steven was a kind and gentle Soul, easy to forgive and to laugh. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he never went anywhere without being recognized and greeted by a friend. He seemed to know everyone and always remembered the names of those he ran into. He always found time to help others and to be there for those who needed a friend, a helping hand or just a laugh. Steven was always very artistic and talented and he enjoyed carving wood and creating all types of art with all types of materials. He was very talented and had a generous heart, giving away many of his creations that took him hours to create. He loved sharing with others and often made, or brought something to his family and friends, just to see them smile. His greatest loves were his wife, Elaine and his mom, oh, and fishing! Steven loved to fish; he started fishing at an early age, going with his oldest sister Pauline. She remembers Steven getting so excited, even if the first fish he caught was actually just a minnow. He was an excellent pool player, horseshoe player and dart player. He was good at everything he did! Back when he was young, he was a little league coach as well, Steven loved kids and kids loved him. Steven will be missed more than we can say and we will think of him often, coming by early in the mornings after dropping off Elaine at work, just to see how we are doing and to bring us little things he found that he thought we would like. He was always thinking of others. Before his passing, Steven accepted Jesus Christ into his heart as his Lord and Savior. He is at peace and at rest with a new body, with no more pain and no more tears. We love you Steven and will never forget your smile and your loving heart.
