Carl Swanson

Obituary of Carl Arthur Swanson

Carl Arthur Swanson passed away on February 17, 2023, at the age of 86. The last to join his wife Shirley,  parents Harold & Katherine, brothers Phillip, John, Robert and sister Patsy, who preceded him in death.  Born in Washington DC the family soon settled in and around the Eagle Nest and Taos NM area.

Carl was an unpretentious man.  He joined the Air Force in 1954 and served honorably during the Korean Conflict. Carl drove  for Southwestern Film Service running a longtime trucking route hauling mail for the US Postal Service until his retirement.  He coached championship little league teams and was an active member in many charitable organizations.

Carl enjoyed woodworking, making jewelry and collecting items in many forms.  He enjoyed traveling with his little brother Bob up to Eagle Nest to visit the Swanson homestead. Friends and family often relied on Carl to help them fix and manage anything life could throw at them.   He cared deeply for his close friends, family and neighbors. Always a giving caring man to those who could see  beyond his tough exterior.  Our family wants to thank those special neighbors and friends who helped Carl over the years on a daily basis.

There will be no services per Carl’s request.  He wanted everyone to remember him in their own special way.  No tears, no sadness, just happiness that his life was blessed by each person he met and befriended along the way.  His interment will be in the Angel Fire State Military Cemetery, close to his homestead he loved.
