Obituary of John Joseph Chamberlin

On Thursday, November 30, 2023, John Joseph Chamberlin, loving father of three children and good friend to many passed away peacefully after a short illness in his home at the age of 89 surrounded by his children.  

John was born in Mattoon, Illinois on September 21, 1934, to Donald and Violet (Whetsell) Chamberlin. He graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1953. Following high school, he attended college for a short time. He then enrolled in the Navy in 1955 and was discharged in 1957. John had a long and successful career at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory as a supervisor in the Computer Mainframe Department. 

He was a cowboy and loved horses, rode broncs, and participated in many rodeo competitions. He loved hunting and the great outdoors. He enjoyed various hobbies, including weightlifting, dancing, and reading. 

John was preceded in death by his parents Donald Edward and Violet Ethel Chamberlin, his sister Mary Ann and brother-in-law Charlie White.  

 John is survived by his son, John Philip (Lynne), daughter, Cindy (Bob), son, James Wesley (Cindy), sister, Martha Alice and brother-in-law, Richard Huffington, grandson, Jared, granddaughter, Melissa (Chris), and two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Kaiden, also left to cherish his memories are many, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. 

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to John Joseph’s friends, Johnny Garcia, and Shirley Naylor for all their love and support during this difficult time.

A celebration of John's life will be held on Friday December 22, 2023 from 12 noon to 2pm at Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque, 225 San Mateo Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM 87108. 

An additional service and burial will be held at a leter date in Mattoon, Illinois. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Judes Cancer Research Center, Our Lady of Guadalupe-Peralta, or a charity of your choice.
