Obituary of Fidel Martinez Jr.

Fidel Martinez, Jr., 69 of Albuquerque, passed away at home surrounded by his family on December 25, 2023 after a battle against cancer. 

Fidel was born November 16, 1954 in Denver, Colorado. He moved to Southern California as a toddler and graduated from San Fernando High School in 1972.  

Fidel joined the United States Navy in 1975 when he was 20 years old and served his country until 1980.  Fidel was an antisubmarine warfare operator and search and rescue swimmer. He served on the USS Kittyhawk and USS Ranger.  

Fidel attended Loyala Marymount and graduated from the University of Phoenix in 1999, and he obtained his C.P.A. license the same year. His distinguished career in accounting spanned over 40 years. Fidel ran his private C.P.A firm Fidel Martinez, C.P.A in Albuquerque, NM for 20 years.

Fidel's most treasured part of life is his family. He married his wife, Katherine, on September 13,1980 and together created a beautiful family with three children and two grandchildren (who called him Gram Gram).  Fidel loved family vacations to Laughlin, NV and Denver, CO; Saturday mornings at the flea market and afternoon BBQs; Sunday mornings at church, and Sunday family dinners and watching a comedy or action movie with a bowl of ice cream. 

Fidel is preceded in death by his son Mark Martinez, mother Sophie Martinez, father Fidel Martinez, Sr., and brother Sam Martinez. Fidel is survived by his wife Katherine Martinez; daughter Denise Logan (Bobby) of Albuquerque, NM; son Alexander Martinez (Robert) of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren Isabella and Julian Logan, brothers James Martinez, Randy Martinez and Tim Martinez; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, and friends. 

A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 10:45 am at Calvary Church on 4001 Osuna Rd NE 87109.  Immediately after the service, Fidel will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Cemetery with Navy Military Honors.  Reception will take place at American Legion Post 99
