Obituary of David Lee Chavez

David L. Chavez passed into God’s loving hands on January 18, 2024 at the age of 82. He was surrounded by many loved family and friends during his quick stay in the hospital.

David was born in Santa Fe, NM to Adelaido and Celine Chavez on July 23, 1941. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp and continued to make serving his community a part of his life. He was married, had two children but the marriage did not last. He later married again to Toni and had three children; they were married until her passing in May 2023. David worked in the banking industry most of his professional life although he ventured as an entrepreneur, owning a car dealership. He had a beautiful smile, loved to laugh and make others laugh, as he was a joker. He loved joining and participating with all his heart in organizations that served others in some capacity, such as the church’s Knights of Columbus, Sertoma Club, and the Chamber of Commerce Redcoats. He enjoyed watching and attending sporting events, being active in his church, going camping, visiting with friends and traveling with his family.

He is survived by children David, Cheryl, Steven, Duane (Norene) and Suzanna, granddaughters Apryl, Allexa and Analiese, grandsons, Jeff, Steven and Brett, great grandchildren Liam, Collin, Oliver, Domenic, Lexington, Siena, Jericho, Ollie, Milo and Louie, siblings Del Chavez and Edna Miller (Terry), and many other family members and wonderful friends David made throughout his life.

Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Thursday, February 8 at the Church of the Incarnation in Rio Rancho, NM. A reception will immediately follow at the parish hall.

Interment will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery starting at 2:00 pm sharp.
