Ronald Speer

Obituary of Ronald Wayne Speer

Ronald W. Speer

October 5, 1950 - February 13, 2024

On February 13, 2024, Ron died at his home in Tucumcari, NM. Ron was born to William Lewis Speer and Norma Grace (Parker) Speer, in Searcy, AR on October 5, 1950. At the time, “Lew” was away, fighting in WWII and Grace was visiting her mother, Mrs. Tressie Parker. Ron joined the USMC in June of 1968, where he was enlisted and fought in Vietnam until his discharge in December of 1970. In 1971, Ron joined the USAF. Upon his retirement in 1990, he was ranked E6/MSGT. In 1993, he returned to working for the USAF, in a civil service capacity until 2002.

During his time in the Air Force, he Met Deanna Lynn Scott. The two were wed in 1978 and were married for 43 years. Ron enjoyed listening to music, laughing with friends, playing with pets, spending time online, watching college football and reading his Bible. Ron's life was often overshadowed by physical and mental health issues/trauma, which limited him in different ways. In February 2021, he moved to New Mexico to “find peace”. This was a difficult experience for his wife, children and grandchildren. We hope and pray that he was able to find that peace before his death. We are comforted by a God who makes all things new.

Ron is survived by his Ex-Wife: Deanna Speer of Searcy AR, Children: Matthew (Staci) of Spring Hill TN, Katherine of Phoenix AZ, Grandchildren: Brennan and Ellen. Preceded in death by his parents, Lew and Grace, and his brother, Dwight.
