Obituary of Selina Sandoval

It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Selina “Irene” Sandoval, of Las Vegas, NM.

Irene left her earthly family at the age of 74 on February 2, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

Irene was born on August 11, 1948, to Tranquelino and Sarah Sena. She met the love of her life, Orlando Sandoval, and they married in 1964. Irene loved to cook, bake, and she loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and great great grandkids. She especially enjoyed baking banana bread, bread, and cinnamon rolls for those she loved.

Irene worked for the United World College for 16 years where she was a cook. In her time spent at UWC, she met many coworkers who became like family and held a special place in her heart.

After she retired, she became a caretaker to her husband and they spent much of their time together going for rides on their trike, listening to the radio, and enjoying eachother’s company. Although she battled Parkinson’s for many years, it was ultimately her broken heart after her “Honey’s” passing that took her. She is loved dearly and will be missed by many.

Irene is preceded in death by her husband Orlando Sandoval; parents, Tranquelino and Sarah Sena, brother; James Sena, and granddaughter; Diane Richie.

She is survived by her children, Jeanette and George Apodaca, Marvin Sandoval, Ray and Doris Sandoval, Cathee and Sameer Hawash; her grandchildren, Lyla and Patricio Maestas, Isaiah and Margo Apodaca, Alya Apodaca, and Donevin Medina, Aaliyah Apodaca, Anthony and Iris Sandoval, Daniel and Mariah Sandoval, Christ Sandoval, ten great grand kids, two great great grand kids; sisters, Margie and Tony Lopez and Rose and Luis Pacheco; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, beginning at 9 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Reception to follow at Trujillo’s Lounge on 820 Grande Ave., Las Vegas, NM. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Margie Lopez, Rose Pacheco, Rita Varela, and Vera Martinez.
