Obituary of David Alfonso Griego

On Thursday February 29th, 2024, David Alfonso Griego, loving father, grandfather brother and Korean war hero was called home to our Lord at the age of 93. His sudden passing deeply saddened his family and friends.

David was born on January 20th, 1931, in San Acacia, New Mexico as one of 13 children to the late Donaciano and Mary Griego.  He was a devoted husband for 42 years to Isolina Griego until her passing in July of 2016. A loving father, brother, friend and hero, he will be missed by many in his community.

David selflessly served our country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army's 5th Regimental Combat Team in Korea from 1951-1953.  He risked his life to save his fellow soldiers in battle, leading him to be honored with a Bronze Star and decades later a Purple Heart for his bravery.  Despite his injuries and brief hospitalization, he returned to the front lines to continue service.  He received an honorable discharge.

David was an exemplary father, husband, brother and friend. He embodied the best qualities: bravery, unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in his care for his wife, children and stepchildren, their entire family, friends and countless others who were lucky enough to cross his path.

David retired in 1977 as an iron worker and spent his time with family camping and fishing, He traveled all over the country with his family and children, even enjoying the culture of Mexico and Guatemala.
