Obituary of Betty Jo Allen

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, Betty Jo Allen, long time resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully.

Betty Jo was born on August 13, 1933 with her younger twin sister Jo Ann to Henry W. and Lorene F. Mathis.

Betty Jo grew up in Belen, NM where she attended Belen High School.

After high school, Betty Jo had three children-Michael Smith, Richard Smith and Debbie Hutchison.

Betty Jo married the love of her life Bill Allen. Together they enjoyed working, traveling and living in Florida and Georgia before moving back to New Mexico to be with family. They settled down in Tijeras, NM.

Together Betty Jo and Bill enjoyed riding their Harley, Mountain Men reenactments, and spending time with their family, friends and grandchildren.

Betty Jo’s career spanned over 70 years as a bookkeeper and other various positions.

Her hobbies include reading, feeding her hummingbirds and socializing.

In her later years, Betty Jo volunteered for the annual Alzheimer’s Association fundraising events and walks.

Betty was known for her outgoing personality. She never met a person she did not like and loved to “cut up” with anyone and everyone.

Betty Jo was proceeded in death by brother Oscar Lee, her father Henry and mother Lorene, twin sister Jo Ann, husband Bill and her son Richard.

She is survived by loving children Michael Smith and wife Thayna, Debbie Bolling and husband Doug; grandchildren-Mathis, Michelle, Katie, Dallas, Shanlynn and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 @ St. Paul Lutheran Church 1100 Indian School Rd NE Albuquerque, NM 87102 at 1:00pm.
