Obituary of Andrea Yvonne Aragon

March 25, 1965-February 29, 2024

On Thursday, February 29, 2024 Andrea Yvonne Aragon, loving daughter, sister and aunt passed away peacefully at the age of 58. Andrea was born on March 25, 1965 in Albuquerque, NM to Helen and Ernest Aragon. She grew up in Albuquerque where she attended Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School. She graduated from St. Pius X High School in 1983. She went on to attend New Mexico State University where she received a Bachelor degree in Education.

Andrea then moved to Riverside, California were she started her life long career of 30+ years as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and EL director with Moreno Valley Unified School District. Some of the schools she worked at are Honey Hollow Elementary, Creekside Elementary and Rainbow Springs Preschool. Andrea loved many colleagues and friends she met through the years while residing in California that became her second family, however she even kept a close knit group of friends from her schooling in New Mexico as well. She relished the time she spent in California where she visited many beaches, amusement parks and places with local flair and culture. Andrea traveled to many places with family and friends. She always made a point of coming home to Albuquerque to be with her family for most holidays.

Andrea was a devout fan of the Dallas Cowboys. She acquired a large collection of memorabilia she kept in her home. She was young at heart and known for her generosity and kindness. She adored her nephews Jonathan and Michael, her great-nephew Santiago and her great-niece Selena.

Andrea was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Ernest Aragon. She is survived by her sister, Anissa Chavez (husband-Paul), nephew Jonathan Chavez (wife-Gabby) and their children Santiago and Selena and nephew Michael Chavez, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins, colleagues and friends.

A rosary and funeral mass will be held in Albuquerque on April 12, 2024 at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church at 1:00 pm(rosary), 1:30 pm(funeral Mass) located at 811 Guaymas Pl. NE  87108. Interment will follow the mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery located at 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE 87109. Reception will follow interment at Los Altos Golf Course event center located at 9717 Copper Ave. 87123.

Flowers can be sent to Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 811 Guaymas Pl. Albuquerque, NM 87108. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to the UNM Cancer Center Fund (202919) by visiting http://www.unmfund.org/unmgives.
We want to especially Thank Dr. Teresa Rutledge and her medical team at UNM Cancer Center who took the greatest care of Andrea. We also want to Thank the nurses and doctors at UNMH 4th floor in the Women's Special Care unit that gave the best of care and attention to Andrea in her final days.
