Obituary of Harry Albert Velarde

Harry Albert Velarde, 77, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on March 10, 2024.

Harry was born on July 7, 1947 to Jesus and Amalia Velarde in Albuquerque, New Mexico. he was one of 9 children: Leo, Andy, Clorinda, Sylvia, Fred, Gilbert, Sammy, And twin brother Jerry.

Harry had an enormous heart. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was a shy and soft-spoken person, but also very friendly and kind! He was sensitive and incredibly compassionate. Through the years, Harry enjoyed fishing, gaming, spending time with his twin brother on walks, he enjoyed talking to people making friends wherever he went.

He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. His daughter, Romelia, was the apple of his eye and he often showed a photo of him and her together to as many people as he could… sometimes more than once or twice… His eyes would light up each time and he would smile from ear to ear. When his time came, he carried himself with strength and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly.

Harry had 4 children, Romelia, Marcelino, and two other daughters.

Harry was predeceased by his parents, Jesus and Amalia Velarde, His aunt Minda, Uncle Sheldon Jr, Siblings Leo Velarde, Andy Velarde, Sylvia Popkes, Gilbert Velarde, and Sammy Velarde, his nephew Antony Velarde, his son Marcelino Velarde, and many others.

He is survived by his uncle John Valdez, his siblings Clorinda Ricci, Freddie Velarde, his twin brother Jerry Velarde, His daughter Romelia Martinez and her husband Rick, His nephews Robert Velarde, Charles Velarde and his wife Louise, Steve Zagursiki and his wife Maureen, Jeff Zagurski and wife Dee, His Nieces Donna and husband Dan Rodgers, Beverly, Therese, Monica, and his two grandchildren Brennon Velarde and Sabrina Quan.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at Los Ranchos Seventhday Adventist Church. 9630 4th St NW 87114 on April 15, 2024 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to The New Mexico Crusaders for Justice consisting of other families who lost someone to unnecessary violent crime. The family would like to thank New Mexico Police officers, Detectives, and New Mexico CVRC in their devotion to Harry’s case.
